Fisheries Management Committees
On 1 September 2007, the Fisheries Council of South Australia will take effect. The Fisheries Council will replace the role of previous Fisheries Management Committees (FMCs). Information about these changes can be found on PIRSA's website.
The fishing industry in South Australia in the past had a high degree of input into a range of Government policies and initiatives through Fisheries Management Committees (FMCs). FMCs were statutory bodies established to provide the commercial, and recreational sectors and other stakeholders with the opportunity to participate in a co-management approach in making recommendations to the Minister on matters pursuant to the Fisheries Act 1982. This Act has also been replaced by the Fisheries Management Act 2007.
